Competitor Activity & Snapshots
Every day, Apptonomy takes a snapshot of each competitor you track and compares it to the previous one. The Activity tab under Market → Competitors turns that history into a timeline you can scan, and each dot on the timeline opens the exact changes for that day.
Why it matters
Section titled “Why it matters”Competitors rewrite titles, swap screenshots, change icons, and update descriptions constantly, and the store gives you no record of it. A snapshot history lets you see when a rival changed their listing, what they changed, and whether it lines up with a move in the rankings — so you can react deliberately instead of noticing weeks later.
How to read it
Section titled “How to read it”The activity timeline
Section titled “The activity timeline”Each competitor gets a horizontal timeline covering the tracked date range. The dots tell you what happened on each day:
- Green dot (ringed) — the initial pull, the first snapshot recorded for that competitor.
- Indigo dot — a day with detected changes. The most recent change pulses so you can spot the latest activity at a glance. Hover to see a summary of what changed; click to open the full detail.
- Small grey dot — a snapshot was taken but nothing changed that day. Still clickable if you want to see the listing state.
Snapshot detail
Section titled “Snapshot detail”Clicking a dot opens the snapshot for that date. There are two layouts:
- Change days show a side-by-side comparison: the previous listing on the left, the current one on the right, with changed fields highlighted and a word-level diff under each changed text field. The Changes only toggle (on by default) hides everything that stayed the same so you see just the deltas. Turn it off to view the full listing on both sides.
- No-change and initial-pull days show a single listing view with every field, since there’s nothing to compare against.
Snapshots cover the title, subtitle, description, what’s new, publisher, category, version, the icon, and screenshots. Fields carry an “Unchanged since” note so you can tell how long a piece of the listing has been stable.
How it connects to what you do
Section titled “How it connects to what you do”Snapshots feed the emails and in-app alerts that tell you a competitor moved:
- Listing-changed emails go to your team when a tracked competitor makes a meaningful change (like a new title or screenshots). Routine, low-signal edits don’t trigger an immediate email.
- In-app notifications record everything, even changes that don’t warrant an email.
- A weekly digest email rounds up the lower-priority changes that didn’t send an immediate alert, so nothing slips through without flooding your inbox.
- Per-competitor muting lets each person silence emails for a specific competitor from the competitor list without affecting tracking. See Managing Competitors.
When a snapshot shows a competitor making a change that’s working, that’s your cue to open the Keywords & Clusters workspace or start a revision of your own listing.
